Can I record my disciplinary meeting?
Audio recording meetings can level the playing field for those with memory or processing issues.
The Standard Rule
Most disciplinary policies ban recording. They rely on a “note taker”.
The Adjustment
If you have Dyslexia, ADHD, or Memory issues, a notetaker isn’t enough. You can’t listen, process, and check the notes simultaneously.
- EAT Ruling: The Employment Appeal Tribunal has suggested that denying a recording for a disabled employee could be discrimination.
How to Suggest It
“I request to audio record the meeting as a reasonable adjustment for my memory impairment. I will provide a copy of the file to HR immediately after the meeting to ensure transparency.”
