What if my employer says "No"?
A step-by-step guide to escalating your reasonable adjustment request.
Step 1: Informal Chat
Ask “Why?”. Is it cost? Practicality? Misunderstanding?
Step 2: Formal Grievance
Submit a written grievance. This forces them to investigate and give a formal written answer. It also starts the “paper trail” for any legal claim.
Step 3: ACAS Early Conciliation
Before a tribunal, you must contact ACAS. They act as a go-between to try and settle it.
Step 4: Tribunal
The final resort. Dealing with an Employment Tribunal is stressful and slow. Always try to settle via steps 1-3 first.
