Can I demand a promotion/pay rise as an adjustment?
Why "financial adjustments" are rarely required, but protecting your current pay is.
The Law
Reasonable adjustments are about removing barriers, not granting advantages.
- Promotion: You are not entitled to a promotion just because you are disabled. You must meet the criteria. However, the process of getting promoted (interviews/tests) must be accessible.
- Pay: Employers rarely have to pay more for the same job. However, if you move to a lower paid role due to disability, some employers protect your old salary for a period (Red-circling).
Financial Costs
The employer should pay for aids (software, chairs). They shouldn’t charge you for them.
