Assistance Dogs (ADUK)
If you have a registered Assistance Dog (Guide Dog, Hearing Dog), the employer must allow them unless there is a phenomenal safety reason not to (e.g. sterile operating theatre).
Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)
ESAs do not have the same legal standing in the UK as Service Dogs. Employers can allow them, but they don’t have to.
- Issues: Allergies of colleagues, hygiene, rental lease of the building.
Compromise
If an ESA isn’t allowed, can you have more WFH days to be with the animal?
